Wildly Important Goals

I hope your week has gone well. I spent quite a bit of time focusing on goal-setting. In fact, I highly recommend Stephen Covey’s, “The 4 Disciplines of Execution,” which provides excellent insights on getting things done.

As for business, one of my goals is to minimize the amount of time I spend on email. To do this, I shut down Outlook for an hour or two at a time. No *ding* to alert me, and no [Send/Receive] button to click like a gerbil at a pellet-dispenser. This gives me an hour or two to focus on the “wildly important” things.

As for home, we are focusing our energies on planning meals and chores using a simple paper calendar, teaching the kids responsibility through helping around the house, and encouraging them to develop their own spiritual life through Bible reading and prayer.

What are your “wildly important goals” this month? this week? today? Create a compelling scoreboard to track your progress. Invent new and better activities that you can do this week to start reaching those goals, and plug them into your calendar. Then share the goals with someone you know will hold you accountable.

Do that and things will happen!
