Providence: Finding Bentley

Yesterday my dog escaped from the back yard.

I was at work when Becky told me that Bentley, our Collie, had escaped the back yard.  This has happened before and we usually find him within a few minutes to an hour.  This time three hours past and still no sign of him.  Becky grew increasingly upset about it and I came home to look for him.

I drove (and prayed) throughout all the subdivisions in our area, scanned the fields and woods, but still no sign.  As a last “ditch” effort, I pulled the car up to a small creek behind our neighborhood, got out of the car and called to him.  Still no sign of him.  I stood there for another minute before deciding to go home.

As I drove down the street I saw a young man walking with his dog in front of his house.  I asked him if he had seen a Collie.

“Yes, sir.  He’s in my back yard.”

Funny thing is, this young man was locked out of his house.  If he hadn’t been locked out I wouldn’t have seen him to ask him.

He kindly went to his back yard and brought Bentley to me.  I thanked him as he walked over to his neighbors to hang out till his mom got home.

My three year old, Emma, summed it up best.  Several times during the evening she would turn her head, look up and whisper, “Thank you, God.  Thank you finding Bentley.”
