John’s second Music Portrait was an experiment with the fantastic photographer, Jerry Borwick of JB Portraits in Arlington, TN. The idea was to create custom music for his photo viewing sessions, that emotion-filled meeting when a family decides which pictures capture the best moments. He showed me the photos of a precious baby girl named Aubrey Kate. I studied her photo until I had a sense of the simplicity of her peaceful, quiet state. I sat down at the piano and recorded this improvisation in ten minutes. I originally called it “Aubrey Kate” but later changed it to “Be Still And Know” when I added it to my Zuzu’s Petals album years later.
