“Rebecca” by John Albert Thomas



In April 1994, on the campus of Samford University, I met a beautiful woman named Rebecca. It was pretty much love-at-first-sight (at least it was for me). We started dating and a month later I knew I would marry her. We tied the knot in June 1996.

Our first baby was a Baby Grand. One night, I awoke at 2 a.m. with an idea for a song. I realized that all of the letters in Rebecca’s name except for R are keys on the keyboard. Since R and A look the same on a pager (remember those?!), I went with AEBECCA. In the darkness, I snuck over to the piano and discovered what a beautiful melody her name makes. The next day I finished my first music portrait in honor of God’s greatest gift to me on earth!
